Midterm Journal
Purpose
The Midterm Journal is a check-in at the halfway point. It asks how you’re actually learning in this course so far, and what you’ll change for the second half.
Instructions
Submit one journal entry reflecting on your experience so far.
- Format: written (250–400 words) or audio/video (2–3 minutes).
- Voice: your own. No AI-generated entries.
- Goal: an honest look at how your learning is going, including the parts that aren’t going well.
You can use AI for a lot of the work in these courses, but not for this. The journal is about your own learning, and you’re the only one who knows how that’s going.
Prompt
Address all three of these:
- What is working for you so far? Be specific about the habits, strategies, or approaches that are helping you learn.
- What isn’t working, or where are you getting stuck? Name one recurring challenge, confusion, or friction point you’ve run into.
- What is one concrete change you’ll make in the second half? Make it something you can actually do, not a vague intention. “Start each activity on Monday instead of Thursday night” is a change. “Manage my time better” is an intention.
You can draw on anything from the course so far: the activities, feedback you’ve received, how you’ve used AI, how you manage your time, or your own study habits. The more specific you are, the more the entry will be worth to you. A generic or formulaic entry may receive reduced credit.
When it’s due
The due date is set in your course.
Late entries
A late entry earns half credit under the late work policy, which also gives the file name to use.
